Since 1944, the Valpredo family has been growing sweet potatoes in the country's richest soil in Bakersfield, California, also know as "California's Sweet Spot." This land produces some of the best-tasting sweet potatoes on the market. Over the years, the Valpredo Family Farm has perfected the growing and harvesting process to ensure the highest quality and consistently sized sweet potatoes for our Bako Sweet® brand. Today, Bako Sweet focuses on providing the largest variety of value-added, conveniently packaged sweet potatoes.

From Our Family, to Yours

Perfect Growing Climate

The San Joaquin Valley was a lake thousands of years ago, resulting in soil rich in the necessary essential nutrients to produce the sweetest produce in the nation. The region’s hot, arid climate and consistent temperature enables the growth of crops all year round.

Organic Certification

All of our organic labeled products are USDA and CCOF Certified Organic.

USDA Organic: The USDA seal on our organic sweet potato products is a guarantee that our sweet potatoes were grown free of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, growth hormones, antibiotics, preservatives and GMOs.

CCOF Certified Organic: All of our organic sweet potato products maintain the CCOF Certified Organic seal. CCOF Organic Certified foods are produced according to federal standards set by the USDA to ensure soil quality, animal raising, pest and weed control, and use of input materials.

Sustainably grown and harvested with love from our family of growers.

We learned long ago that if you take good care of the soil, it will give back. Valpredo Farms is our family grower and they maintain the vitality of the soil through scrupulous evaluation, testing and good farming practices. Over three generations of farming, we have continued to strive to perfect the process of reinvigorating our soils using proper tillage, cover crops, and excellent crop rotation.

Happy dirt: Bako Sweet takes care of the nutrient-dense soil. Our growers rotate our crops seasonally to improve soil health, while preventing water run-off and reducing dust.

Water conservation: We conserve water by placing drip irrigation directly in the root zone of our beloved crops.

Recycling: We use pooled CHEP pallets and Reusable Plastic Containers (RPC) boxes to increase the sustainable use of resources.

  • CHEP Pallets are painted the color blue and designed to be shared and reused across the supply chain.

  • RPC Boxes are reused up to 120 times! After this, they are granulated and recycled into new crates.
