Heart-Shaped Pizza Pockets

These pizza pocket hearts are so delicious and easy to make! This recipe incorporates heart-healthy sweet potatoes into the pizza dough as they are an excellent source of vitamin A, high in fiber, and sustainably grown.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mashed Bako Sweet Potatoes (about 2 potatoes)

  • 1 cup pizza flour (I use organic red hard wheat)

  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil

  • 1 teaspoon sea salt

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon nutritional yeast

  • Uncured turkey pepperoni

  • Organic fresh mozzarella, shredded

  • Pizza sauce (made with avocado or olive oil)

Directions

  1. Peel and boil sweet potatoes until tender, about 30-40 minutes.

  2. Mash with a fork or potato masher. Once cool, pack potato into measuring cup.

  3. Add mashed potato to a bowl, along with flour and seasonings. Combine until a dough is formed. If dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.

  4. Roll out the dough and use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out hearts. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  5. Add sauce, pepperoni, and cheese to half of the hearts. Place other half of dough heart on top and use a fork to seal the edges all around the hearts.

  6. Bake at 400F for 15-17 minutes and enjoy!
